This really easy soup is heart warming and packs a healthy punch of protein.
Using dried peas and cooked ham it couldn’t be any simpler and it tastes amazing!
Perfect for a blustery autumn or winter’s day.
Ingredients
1kg ham hock or gammon cooked
400g dried peas, soaked overnight
1 ham or chicken stock pot
1 litre of water
1 chicken stockpot
1 medium potato cooked
Put the gammon in a very large pan with 2 litres water and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat and drain off the water – this helps to get rid of some of the saltiness or soak overnight in cold water. Cook in a slow cooker on high for 2-3 hours.
Remove from the slow cooker. Retain any juices in the slow cooker and add the peas and stock pot along with 500ml water. Cook on high for 1 hour.
Add the potato to the peas and blend well until smooth. You can add extra water if you want a thinner soup.,
Shred the ham or gammon and add to the soup.
Season according to own preference
